Daddy's Girl

Daddy's Girl

A Poem by Stacie Dayton

Daddy's girl runs with the pigtails in her hair.
Daddy's girl sees only butterflies and rainbows.
Daddy's girl can make a friend.
Daddy's girl hates the late nights.
Daddy's girl misses him.
Daddy's girl hears the fights.
Daddy's girl saw mommy try to take her life tonight.
Daddy's girl hides in her shell.
Daddy's girl hates the new man.
Daddy's girl moved again.
Daddy's girl didn't like that kiss.
Daddy's girl no longer plays with the other kids.
Daddy's girl ran away today.
Daddy's girl hit 13.
Daddy's girl helped her friend leave.
Daddy's girl was violated.
Daddy's girl can only see the bones and bruises.
Daddy's girl is in treatment again.
Daddy's girl didn't get his visit.
Daddy's girl heard daddy's words.
Daddy's girl doesn't know what she did wrong.
Daddy's girl is just looking for love but only finding hurt.
Daddy's girl lost it all again.
Daddy's girl saw the blood run.
Daddy's girl had to leave this town.
Daddy's girl laid down for him.
Daddy's girl hated all men.
Daddy's girl gave up.
Daddy's girl knew she was never enough.
Daddy's girl held all the lies.
Daddy's girl just couldn't understand why.
Daddy's girl just wanted daddy's love.
Now Daddy's girl is gone.
