New Years

New Years

A Story by Quinn
"

I performed this just after new years infront of my mates.

"
Twelve months
Fifty-two weeks
And a whole lot of days
Filled with emotions and void of feelings
Moments spent blinking and decades of thinking
New bonds, new flourishes, flickering out of the dust;
The dust of time around us
Time filters through and shows itself as tiny moments, new lines, less hairs, and another glint in wide wide eyes
Days worth of falling and months worth of picking up, new ways of seeing and thinking in the evening dusk
No real control over the clock but every moment slowed in front of us
Every diary page filling with more to do and less to feel; more to pay and less to spend
Defining routines arching over bones, with no other movement you become entrapped
No one can give us more time, or let our minds truly rest
But maybe this year, they will let us try our best
Don't forget what deserves to be remembered and don't rose tint what hurt
It's a date with no significance but new years can heal old dirt
So light the candles and fill the glass; start as you wish to go on
Spend time with the people who matter, who will help you carry on
