I Smile

~~~
my grin is not shallow
actually, it’s not a grin at all
but a soft, beaming, smile...
it betrays this fact...
...I love what I see...
even if all I saw was just what
is on the outside...
that would be enough
to inspire...
for you have beauty enough
to fill my dreams
...but...
I have seen inside the veil
that all the world now sees
and seen your heart exposed...
vulnerable to
the slightest prick
that would mar it...make it bleed...
...your heart is scarred...
not all have loved you as I do
they were
...cold...callous...cruel
taking what they wanted for themselves
then leaving you to bleed...
weeping your pain
to the howling darkness
...fear not...I am here...
I hold your heart as if it is my own...
I will not leave you
as you sleep...
my shoulder has soaked up your tears...
in your peaceful slumber
I touch your cheek
with loving lips...
it is a wonder your wounds have not
diminished what you are
...made you distrust
every motive...good or bad
but here you lie
...the real you...
and...I love you all the more
~~~
