it seems like only yesterday

it seems like only yesterday

A Poem by dovetailer
"

timeless love

"

my eyes are heavy...wanting sleep

I rise...complete my day.

I stretch and amble down my hall,

put all my things away.

she lies...reposed...in slumber lost;

cocooned in cotton sheets

her perfume...a sweet bouquet,

aloft...my nostrils meet.

I breathe her in and hold my breath

as fumes of ganja weed

and recollect our careless days

of daring...passion freed.

we ran through fields of timothy

and clover blossoms white.

we loved each other all we could;

we strove for every night.

life is a b***h; it thwarts us all

bedevils at each turn,

but through it all, we bobbed and weaved,

self-preservation learned.

we, back-to-back, as pugilists

faced dark times in the eye,

but caught our breath, walked hand-in hand

when bluer skies drew nigh.

from then to now, we held our ground

life, cynicism met

with strength, resolve and confidence,

the things we hadn’t yet.

I exhale the breath I took

and breathe it in again,

assured that in a changing world

some things are still the same.

I shower, shave, s**t, and shine.

I powder, primp and prime.

I comb my hair and towel dry,

my life to hers...a rhyme.

I know that she no longer sleeps.

she, patient, waits for me

I, naked, walk to join her there.

she lifts the sheets for me.

I look at her as I descend

and on my pillow lie

and see the lass that I first met:

that caught my searching eye.

how wonderful, as we grow old

and yield to gravity

and time...a heartless thief of all

takes all...leaves brevity.

that, though our bodies fail and tire,

lose one strength; then another

because of love, to each appear

as one teen to the other.

I reach for you and you for me;

keen hunger, unabated,

and passion overcomes once more

as if a lifetime waited.

we close our eyes and love again

on clover blossomed white.

then walk in fields of timothy

and sleep into the night.

I loved how you repeated the lines we close our eyes and love again

on clover blossomed white.

then walk in fields of timothy

and sleep into the night.

I simply loved 'fields of timothy'
This was beautiful, poignant, breathtaking.I like the phrase..'fumes of ganja weed'..it is rare this analogy.I like how you brought out this phrase in a poem of love.It gives it that edgy touch and not making it all too sweet.I also like, life is a b***h; it thwarts us all

bedevils at each turn,

but through it all, we bobbed and weaved,

self-preservation learned.
I like how you write with such a genuine charm, not mincing words putting down a part of your life on paper as it is ..
