love n admiration?

love n admiration?

A Poem by Suchita
"

The poem tells my story of pride n self admiration n excessive self love. Even though, I had it all, something still went missing-simply love. The issue is addressed n solutions devised. Vanity indeed

"
Love n admiration
I thought I had found it
Love was it
Or call it admiration
Self-love, self-admiration
Sung its soulful song
In my life, I loved it

I’d admire myself through the eyes of others
Or as if looking at myself
From afar n others’
I’d fondly recall memories
n’ await charms
Of love n lovin
Such self admiration, no lovin
As enlightened in the above part

They’d give me accolades, pride, prize
Loads of lovin
Then the memories, recalling
I’d play a movie in my head
Of good n “ bad” stuff
About me, n’ events
That took place in my life
n’ find that nay, all was good indeed
Not physically,
But emotionally, psychologically, spiritually

Maybe it was the teens or a play
In which I obtained excessive pleasure, pride
So that things started rolling in my head
The film of life, divine
Back to the past I went
n’ appreciated all things with gratitude
Such thrill, such chill I got
From such altitude

Or cud it be a journal
I kept a Socially Useful Productive Work journal
In my science class
That asked you to write
Of days past
I did so with happiness
n pride
 And perhaps ever since then
Looked back
With pride n happiness
On days past, passing
Every moment got inscribed
in my memory, what happiness

Or cud it be the classmates
The now dignitaries
Playing their parts in my head
That held me in awe n wonder
I’d look at myself
In the mirror several times
And though I look perfect now
I didn’t back then
Was it that which held back love?

This is about self love
But after I wrote that poem- self love
I realized I didn’t love myself
Uptil now
I needed a lot of love
Not self admiration
They were not one n the same thing
Self love would come about
By being yourself, they said
How cud I go back to being myself
Things had changed
Just love yourself as you are

Just be yourself
Don’t think of self loving thoughts
Just let things be
n’ let your soul discover
The free self you are

Live in the present, not the past
All this they said
The wise persons n quotes
Indeed they made you dote
On who you were
At the present n past, future note

But I wonder what is self love?
Isn’t it a little different from self admiration?
Just be n be n let time see
You through
The bright n dull, old n new
Love yourself, talk positive, think positive, speak positive
Just be
Earn your life, living n so love
That’s what them said the wise ones

Mirror, mirror on the wall, who is the … huh... wait a minute... who is this staring back? Sometimes the praise given by others contain ulterior motives! Self examination is a good thing, as long as we acknowledge our faults along with our gifts; just part of the growing process! I like the way you poetically entwined the reflections of others with an observational self assessment. The journey you paint with words gives away your personality and individualism – interesting write! :-)
