My Weird, Weird, DreamA Story by Mandabear
The dream I had last night
There was at least a hundred of us, lined up in the hallways. I don’t know why, I’m just going to walk downtown, looking for friends. My downtown has cobblestone streets and bridges. I know it is my downtown that I’m yearning to go to, it is the one that I’ve dreamt of before.
Hannah and Courtney come out of a classroom, did I forget to mention we were in a school? Courtney says something to me (I don’t remember what), but we laugh. Sophie’s standing next to me, and Courtney is a few people down. We talk for a few minutes, but then she disappears.
I am saying something, but Sophie suddenly shushes me. Turning towards me, she holds up her phone, which is really my phone, and says sharply, “Don’t text! Put your phone away! She’s coming!”
For some reason I think my mom will be very mad at me if I don’t tell her that I’m not coming home. I try to text her hurriedly (I can’t see my phone, picture everything like you turned on the fisheye filter). I panic. Sophie tells me again and I am about to ask why she has her (my) phone out.
But before I can do that, my fifth grade teacher Mrs. Larsen screams in my face, yelling at me for having my phone. My explanation went something like this as my phone made all kinds of weird error screens, “But I have to! My mom, she needs to know!”
Mrs. Larsen tried to snatch my phone away, which was actually my other friend Lexi’s phone, and I got so angry I stepped out of line. I realized that all of us were in some kind of detention. I angrily stalked away, walking down the white halls. Everything was so bright.
I slowly walked up three steps and saw what I knew were ghosts. They were transparent except for a slight greenish blue hue, and I reached out to touch one; a teenage boy. His hand was outstretched and my vision seemed to zoom in on it.
Then it cut to some body falling into a white abyss after the floor crumbled away. It had been right where I had been previously standing. Sophie peered over the edge, and then looked up. She gasped, realization slapping across her face. I was supposed to be dead.
That’s when I woke up to find another cut diagonal on my thumb. The bottom of it was ready to bleed.
