A Jack of All Trades

A Jack of All Trades

A Poem by Sujash I. Purna

It’s between him and the world

That he belongs

He had too much of the untold;

And this irks when he pretends

As if he were the sole

Owner of gaiety that his world evokes.

A Jack of all trades;

He is the master of none.

None of those the juggernauts have;

Not a gift of the gab,

Not a sleight of hand,

But one he is master of!

The master of not being master of any

And this single truth made his world shun,

Shunned him to a corner

To a corner of rust,

But his indomitable lust was

Enough for him to dream,

To be the master of all trades

And a world that belongs to him…

My Dear Writing Friend Sujash,
An excellent poem as usual. I pondered this poem for some time and decided it is better to be a Jack-of-all-Trades than a master of just one or two trades. It has been my experience that to survive in life it is best to be able if needed to be independent. That having many skills really helps out. Living in the bush as I have, one has to be a Jack-of-all-Trades. Those who are not do not survive well. Though it may be a pride thing or an over inflated ego it is nice to know that the task at hand can be tackled with a great deal of confidence. And if one has need of help with a task unfamiliar to them that is likely another friend, who is a Jack-of-all-Trades, will either help out or give instructions and the how, when, why, and where’s of the matter.
I love your poems, as your mastery of the English is excellent. Listed below are the defection of three words I rarely run into, that you have used so well. A job well done my friend, and I might add you are a Master of a Trade, writing poetry!

Blessings, Laughing-Bear

gaiety |ˈgāitē| (also gayety)
noun ( pl. -ties)
the state or quality of being lighthearted or cheerful.

juggernaut |ˈjəgərˌnôt|
noun
a huge, powerful, and overwhelming force or institution.

indomitable |inˈdämitəbəl|
adjective
impossible to subdue or defeat.

This really makes you think. I love your vocabulary in this, you used some really great words. The concept itself is one I feel many people deal with. I love the phrase "indomitable lust," it really spoke to me.

My Grandfather told me. A man need to know a lot of trades. Knowledge is power. I like this poem. In life we need to be good at our desire trades and tasks. A very strong ending to a excellent poem. Thank you.
