What's in a cup of coffee?

What's in a cup of coffee?

A Poem by Deck_As_Heck

What's in a cup of coffee?
A warm welcome on a first date?
The taste of mocha in a first kiss?

Can life change over a cup of coffee?
Asking for her hand at the local cafe.
A father sips at his in a loving phone call he gives his approval.

Lying on the cherry wood floor of a new house clutching a black brew.
Early morning she has exciting news he drops his cup and holds her close.
Life. A new life is found.
A family is born.

Sickness strikes him he has nothing but a cup of coffee to keep him sane.
Tears run down his face.
He leaves her with nothing but memories.
A pot of cold coffee sits open for days.

She drinks her coffee and tears fall deep in the memories of photographs.
He is gone but leaves his heart in a warm cup of coffee.
The babies have just gone and she's alone.
Her only blanket of comfort when depression kicks in.
Life will never be the same.

A mother sits pondering life with a smoldering cup against her aging lips.
No children running around the creaky home.
Just her arthiritis cursed hands on sleek porcelain.
She sits by her fire and smiles.
What's in a cup of coffee?
Memories?
Love?
Or a life between lovers kept sacred in a simple cup of coffee?

Wow. I loved this. It really shows how a simple object like a cup of coffee can be so meaningful. A few lines rambled a little--I think you should break "Sickness strikes him he has nothing but a cup of coffee to keep him sane" into a couple shorter lines. But great job!

Honestly, I am not a fan of coffee. ;]
But this certainly makes it appealing.
I thoroughly enjoyed the images that appeared with every passing sentence.
Bravo. :]

Dam the way you described coffee and its roll in peoples life is remarkable.
The story that you painted with this write created a quick montage of all of these events happening and it made me sad.
It just shows how good this is.

Coffee kisses, eww. ;)
I really like this, there's a lot more to coffee than brewed beans and caffeine. It's a symbol of memories and future and everything in between. And you did a great job looking at that. It's someone's life, coffee is a big part of people's lives, and it gets attached to more than the morning sometimes. This is just too cool. :)
