I loved you

I loved you

A Poem by StimulateyourCreativity
"

This is one of my first poems about a best friend I lost.

"
I love you,
I couldn't see life without you,
So insane thinking we were once inseparable,
"Boring days" weren't so boring with you,
No worry at all about what the future could do to us,
How did this happen,
How could the universe do this to us,
I'm fed up acting like were friends,
So please don't pretend,
I've lost the old you, I'll never see him again,
When your handing over the cash don't you ever think of the past?
Forget it, I know one day it'll pass,
But how often will you do this to yourself,
Bad wealth and worse health,
I did what I could to stop it,
And you always said you were stopping,
It's hard to make a dog quit begging,
So for us, please just stop using,
I'm done feeling that I'm at fault,
I've done what I've could and you don't appreciate it at all
Who would've thought that addiction would keep us apart

What i truly respected and dug about this piece of work was how honest it is. You didn't follow any rules and demands your full attention. There are lots of poetry about addiction, and many that try to sum it up with in the parameters of what word rhymes with what work and that limits ( in my experience) the true scope of the subject. This authentic and fresh and has an almost urban kick to it. Good Job

I read this several times, and looked at it from several points of view before writing this review. At face value, it's about two people and a plea about the addiction that tears them apart. But something nagged at me. I looked at it several more times. And then it struck me. This could also be an internal struggle about addiction. To be honest, my first thought was that it was internal dialogue.
"So insane thinking we were once inseparable,
"Boring days" weren't so boring with you..."
and
"It's hard to make a dog quit begging,
So for us, please just stop using..."
All the self-talk one does to coax, rationalize, justify, anything to get what the addict wants, or to move on and leave the addict behind.

In any case, the emotion is raw, rings true and the anger is bubbling underneath. Well done!

Thanks!!!!
StimulateyourCreativity: Looked at your bio for your age to see since it says one of the first poems you wrote. Wow: I did what I could to stop it, And you always said you were stopping, It's hard to make a dog quit begging: So much anger, in between every line, it's shouting loud and clear. HURT!!! I'm thinking, and of course just guessing, you were young at this time; but it could happen at any age. With age, we must learn there is nothing we can do to help people that do not want it. You are correct not to blame yourself; if you tried to help an "addict" and they continued it's very sad, very sad indeed. The loss of control when you love someone and they turn away not listening is terrible. What a wonderful poem. I love it and (the character); I have lost friends and it pulled at my heartstrings; not to addiction, but losing a friend, a true friend slices a piece of our heart. It's a betrayal that stays within our soul. I love it. You forced me to remember; carries forth a huge emotional impact. Thank you so very much. Dale

You got that RIGHT!!!!!!!!
that's the ugly truth about addiction: no amount of begging someone to stop works because that initial choice has to be the user's... life for the addict revolves around the addiction and the next fix...this is a relevant and sad piece...

It becomes there one and only priority, thank you!
And you always said you were stopping,
It's hard to make a dog quit begging,
So for us, please just stop using,

For some reason those lines stand out to me in your very powerful, emotional write. For those of us who have been through it, it is especially meaningful. This one is a keeper for me for sure.

There's a certain sense of pain in this poem. Very emotional poem. One gets the sense that it was written from the heart. Well done.
