Heading For the Fire - Lost Lyrics 1982

Heading for the Fire

I used to be a nice girl

Pure as the driven snow

Till you came and set me straight

Just thought you’d like to know

Like a fallen angel

Headin’ for the fire

On a path of self destruction

I’m a hypocrite and a liar

I’m gonna hurt you so bad

Drive the knife in and turn it

Like you did to me, I’ll watch you bleed

Give you a lesson and see if you learn it

Baby, I’m sorry, I’d love to change my ways

I’m oh so sorry wanna recapture the old days

When we laughed together I’ll love you forever

But you’re gonna have to pay

I am what you made me

A hypocrite and a liar

An image of yourself

Takin’ you with me to the fire

And you’ll be

I agree. We learn over time and see the bits from long ago that seem so amaturish now.

See, one thing I am worried about in life is divorce, not sure why though. I know it happens to millions of people but I kind of - like most people - wanna be in a stable relationship forever, especially if kids are involved. I think if there are kids it makes it harder. We let the way people treat us, change us when we shouldn't. This is a really true, creative write, Tamtam. Well done.

This has a bit of a "Ring of Fire" feel to it...not sure why. And I like that! There are some hard hitting lines in this one that would lend themselves well to a good, strong guitar. Well done.

Thank you - I was ornery then and I suppose I haven't changed much
Sounds like most divorces... Uhg!
You actually did a great job showing the cause and effect of things. Still, I find it sad to see that people continue to give power to those who bring negative energy into their world.
We feed this fire when we let others behaviors change us. We don't have to change into the mirror of their behaviors. We can mirror something more lovely if we only choose...
Otherwise, we all burn.
I like what you said in your authors note. You are a bright woman.
The poem was a very accurate and creative portrayal of our "gut response" to the ugly in life.
I think you may have found more constructive ways to "burn" now.
Bravo on a powerful write.

lol. nice.
This has held up through time magnificently! I can definitely hear it as lyrics to some funky, bass heavy track.

I love going back and looking at the younger me through what I wrote. Most of it (pretty much ALL of it) was dreck but, you know, it puts you right there, at that moment, like taking a trip in some fucked up time machine.

I'm glad you saved it and even more glad that you decided to share it with us. Very well done!

Love the metaphor! It proves (as your comment does) that you are a writer of high calibre!
Stanza 3 and 4, deadly combo. '82 was well before my existance, but the message here is still just as relevant a read. It's dark, must be pretty cool to look back at something you wrote 30 years ago and see how it makes you feel now compared to before. That notion is what made me want to start writing, for my future self to reflect back on times. Good job I enjoyed the read!
