Sands on the Shore

Sands on the Shore

A Poem by Alvin L. Kathembe

We’re nothing but mere grains of sand

On the face of life’s glassy shore

Just two grains among the thousands

Upon thousands and thousands more…

Hoping, before the day is done

To get our moment in the sun…

Let’s bask, and shine, and love, and kiss

And make our moment perfect bliss

For there’s a crashing, foaming tide

That breaks upon the ocean-side

And washes in while we’re asleep

To swallow sand-grains in the deep…

Let’s bask, and shine, and love, and live

And be all we’re destined to be

’Fore Time, that crashing, foaming wave

Washes everything out to sea…

This was a beautiful write, it made me think of being at the beach with all the people with their umbrellas and towels everywhere, laying in the sun, taking in the beauty of it all.. Very well done.

I really like this. The ebb and flow of the poem itself somewhat reminded me of the ocean's tides.

"For there's a crashing, foaming tide
That breaks upon the ocean-side
And washes in while we're asleep
To swallow sand-grains in the deep..."

Those were definitely my favorite lines. They flow together really well and leave a faint sense of urgency. Loved this.

This was so epic and great....a bit reminiscent of KAMIKAZE ROMANCE (to me)...the flow was extremely perfect and the message was strong and current. I always love the tone you imply in these piece...you give life clarity and focus with your insight and precise delivery.

Loved this part:

"Let’s bask, and shine, and love, and kiss
And make our moment perfect bliss
For there’s a crashing, foaming tide
That breaks upon the ocean-side
And washes in while we’re asleep
To swallow sand-grains in the deep…"

You are a master of words...Keep stringing us along!!

Another favorite!
