Memories of us

Memories of us

A Poem by Alex Figueroa

A far off memory that’s like a scattered dream

A scattered dream that’s like a far off memory

I want to line the pieces up..

Yours and mine.

When you remember one thing

That leads to remembering another

And then another and then another…

Our memories are connected.

Many pieces are linked

Together like they’re in a chain

That makes up each of us.

Memory is a way of holding on

To the things you love

The things you are

The things you…

           Never want to lose.

You said that we’d meet again..

Only we wouldn’t recognize each other..

But I remember..

Walking this road with you

Blurred memories..

To make up forgotten promises..

And meet you at roads end.

Even if our friends fade into eternal oblivion…

Even if they woke up not recognizing us

Our hearts would..

For my promise is a simple one

To keep you in my heart and memory

And for you to humbly do the same

For a scattered dream that’s like a far off memory

And a far off memory that’s like a scattered dream

It’ll be okay because you’ll have me to lean on..

I’ll never forget for we are never apart

Our destinies are forever intertwined..

All you must do is remember and keep..

The Memories of Us...
