When They Fight

Its about how a child feels when his/her parents fight.

I don't get it!

Why do they fight?

Every! Single! Time!

When they get a chance

To get away from us.

They shut the door of the room.

And all we can hear is shouting and quarreling.

Once I remember when they started on something

And he slammed fridge door on her hand.

It was bad! Very bad!

We were so frightened!

Then they had a massive one

And they didn't talk to each other.

For a LONG time!

Now today.

They got in an argument.

And I don't like it.

It feels like our worlds

Have been turned upside down!

It scares me...

She is not happy;

Her smile has faded away.

And he is not cheery either.

God, please make everything alright.

Please make them laugh!

Please make our life easy as well.

It's annoying! And i get scared!

I can say that I can easily relate to this because I went through this. As a child it is frightening, and it had a huge effect on me but I have moved on from the past. The memories will always be there but now I no longer obsess over what I went through as a child. Just try to learn to forgive but never forget. Nice work!

Some parents will never learn that happiness comes from within. They spend all their time and energy trying to make the other person make them happy. All they really do is break each other’s souls and leave a child feeling unworthy. Your poem is deeply moving and sad.

This is a poignant piece which many children have had to endure. Not a happy place. it is well written and the only bit that threw me was the very last line which says 'It's annoying' It does not fit with the distress of the child. It is an understatement that slits the throat of your wonderful and emotional poem.
