Words As Weapons

Words As Weapons

A Poem by Tania Leigh

Have you not a clue of
the magnitude of the
words you’ve just spoken
to me?

Don’t you know of the
devastating effect your
words have carelessly
inflicted on me?

You’re careful in other
aspects of your life, but
what about me? I am
your wife!

Can’t you for once just
pretend to believe and
grant my feelings a much
needed reprieve?

Not a thing hurts me more
than to know you don’t
care, so my dreams I have
chosen to cease to share.

And I’ll leave you with a
bit of advice: before you
speak to someone, always
think twice…

For words as weapons can hurt
more, you see, than any pain
you could cause someone physically.

as humans I think we often downplay the pain that can be inflicted by words. Words are often the main culprit behind insecurities, self-hatred, and depression, but often they are over looked and 'events' that could have triggered such thoughts and emotions are sought out and blamed. I hope you actually left when you gave your 'piece of advice' and I hope you really know you deserve so much more than a person in your life who will speak to you badly.

It is a great poem that expresses a problem that can often be overlooked. Thank you.

Damage from words lingers forever in the soul ...their scars never vanishing...always present to remind us.

Beautifully written...sad that you have had to experience this to have been able to write it...

"For words as weapons can hurt

Your perceptions are so apt so poignant!

Excellent! You have said soo much here. Obviously driven by serious verbal pain...words like daggers, and once said, they cannot be taken back. This is a great piece on verbal abuse- a quiet killer. Sad how lover's whispers can turn into venomous vinegar! Powerful!

A sharp tongue can be just as painful as a fine edged blade, on an emotional level of course. Most people don't think about what they are saying until it is said, and then it is too late. Nice work.

Emotional abuse is the worst... words cut in such a way. I have seen it first hand too many times.. People who toss words around without thinking, might as well shoot a gun without looking...

Great emotional piece, you captured this subject matter very well...
