Addictions

Addictions

A Poem by Tashida

Addictions:

They hold me.

Their viscous tentacles latch onto me.

Addictions:

I'm theirs.

They own me.

They enslave me.

They imprison me.

Addictions:

You know me better than I know myself.

Addictions:

I engage in deadly battles against you to no avail.

I'm tired.

I desire to be set free.

Addictions:

Is there any chance you could release me?

I long to be free.

strong personification of addiction speaks to the helplessness that is felt. the lack of control it exudes. the part that spoke loudest was the ending, "Is there any chance you could release me? I long to be free." pleading with it to release from its grip. sad but realistic. effectively captured the feelig. nice job.

Thank you i'm glad you enjoyed it :)
Your words truly mean a lot. Thanks for stopping by :)
Addictions are a way for a soul thats lacking fulfillment to try to fill the void. If the missing 'part' of a life can be filled with other more positive things - the addictions or the need can fade.
This poem does convey well the sense of frustration and even hopelessness that accompanies addictions.

The line "you know me better...myself" is very intriguing. Who is fooling whom?

Great piece.
