Words

A Poem by TheJordBaker

As you lead me away from it,
as I take your hand in mine.
As we smile we don’t need to admit
as I hold you one final time.

As your lips kiss the filter and don’t kiss my own.
As you look in my eyes and I keep them from tears.
As I never said it and you keep your mouth closed.
As you walk away and I’m living all that I feared.

As we shared that love, be damn sure it haunts me.
As the pearly gates seem just a devil away,
or maybe an angel.
My heaven is missing an angel.

I miss that smile
as I’ve never missed anything else.
I miss that laugh
as I can’t laugh by myself.
I miss you
as I drink down my regrets.

And the words we never said
spill their hearts inside my head.
