Jaquie Mint
A Chapter by
Broken Child
Clink, Clack, THUMP! Those were the usual noises from my stupid crutches as I entered the school hall. Trying to impress anyone and everyone at this new school, I tried to walk as gracefully as I could. Oh, sorry, skipping ahead! My name's Jaquie (short for Jaquilene) and I was born with only one leg; my right. Everyone was staring at me, or more my non-existent leg. I sighed as I pushed the door open to my first class. All of a sudden the door smashed back into my face, and I wobbled forward. Crashing down into the room, everyone was looking at me. "Care to stand up, Miss Mint?" Mr Edwards, the hideous white-haired math teacher, looked down on me. "Sorry, it really wasn't my fault, you see I was just walking in and then the door slammed back and then-" I heard laughing and giggling from the back row. "She's only got, like, one leg." Muttered one. "Hah, yeah. She probably fell under a bus, hence the fall!" More giggles. "Ahem." Thank God for Mr Edwards. Leaning against the desk I explained to everyone why I only had one leg (and all the other stuff you say when you tell everyone about yourself). "I'm Jaquie Mint, thirteen going on fourteen and I was born this way." Then Mr Edwards ushered me to sit down, which just happened to be in the second row, fourth from the left and next to two girls who kept asking me to pass notes to one another. So not the best start to my day.
