Remember the Goodbye

Remember the Goodbye

A Poem by Lydia
"

Another song that I wrote. One of my only more emotional songs.

"

(Verse 1)

Remember how we used to play in the summertime

Catching lightning bugs, and staying up all night

You said I was your best friend and you were mine

Even though we used to always fight

Remember that time it was twelve a.m.

And we were sitting up laughing about him

Why did we even like him in the first place

(Pre-Chorus)

But now it's all breaking through

And I don't now what I'm gonna do

Without you

(Chorus)

I don't want to remember you like this

No, I don't want to be the only one with a broken heart

I don't want to remember you in this place

I just want to remember you with that big smile on your face

(Verse 2)

You were the best friend a girl could ever have

And you could always make me laugh

Even when your jokes weren't funny

I can still remember your toothless grin

That you had when you were about six

It still cracks me up

Remember that time we entered the talent show

Made fools out of ourselves, but we didn't care

(Pre-Chorus)

But now it's all breaking through

And I don't now what I'm gonna do

Without you

(Chorus)

I don't want to remember you like this

No, I don't want to be the only one with a broken heart

I don't want to remember you in this place

I just want to remember you with that big smile on your face

(Bridge)

I know that you fought as hard as you could fight

And I know that you just wanted things to turn out right

And I know that you wanted to survive

But we all know that you're not going to make it through the night

I don't know if I can take this

And you're the one that I'm gonna miss

And I'm the one that's gonna cry

When you say goodbye

(Chorus)

I don't want to remember you like this

No, I don't want to be the only one with a broken heart

I don't want to remember you in this place

I just want to remember you with that big smile on your face

(Last Verse)

She didn't make it through the night

But the last words she spoke were the most beautiful she ever spoke

She said, I fought as hard as I could fight

And I know that you just wanted things to turn out right

And you all wanted me to survive

But I know, everyone knows that I'm not going to make it through the night

I'm losing this fight

And I know that you can take this

And I don't want to be the one you're gonna miss

And please, please, please don't cry

When I say goodbye

She said goodbye

Sorry for looking upon your "read request" so late. was little occupied myself. so, accept my apologies.
And this one is really amazing. Even before I started with the third line I was singing it like a Rihanna song (the beats in my head were more like the "Diamond" song of hers).
But, on a serious note, it is really well written, the way you have defined and given clarity to Pre-Chorus, Chorus and Verses shows hoe you have the niche for details and it comes naturally to you. The flow of the poem is smooth.

Thanks for this one!
Cheers

I would like to hear this as a song. You brought tears to my eyes... I think we all have friends who didn't make it as far down the river as we have but it is good if painful to remember that part of the journey we had with them at our sides.

I'm genuinely tearful. And that's not like me!
This is so gorgeous. I'd love to hear it sung. I'm glad to see I'm not the only one writing lyrics on here - although these are miles better than any of mine. :)
Beautiful.
