Reflections

Reflections

A Poem by Lydia

She catches a glimpse of her reflection

In the calm and undisturbed waters

Her cold, blue eyes lack the emotion

That she once would never had thought would totter

Chestnut curls frame her sharp jaw

That juts out far more than it used to

The scars show from the many times she had to crawl

It's amazing how one expierience can affect you

It can change you into someone unknown

A far cry from the person with such life

Whose vivid imagination was so easily shown

That person who never failed to shine

Now shes stronger than she ever thought she would have to be

That isn't a good thing, either

This could have been prevented if only they had dug deeper, and tried to see

Unimaginable things happened because no one believed her

This really brings out your imagination :) It is true that bad experiences only make you stronger and better prepared for the next one - good job

A great character poem. You describe the image of the girl and then delve deeper into who she is and how she became that way. You link into the inward self with the scars, which are both physical and emotional, and then "crawl" into the mind and heart of the character with the language and imagery you use to reinforce your message. This is an imaginative piece. The poem has an outward and inward division, like reflection on water, which makes the title so perfect. This piece is extremely mature, and it improves drastically when read out loud!!!

I wonder if you could use another word in the first line other than reflection, since it is already in the title... Love the word glimpse in that sentence. So verbally perfect. Also, "have thought" is proper grammar for the fourth line. I wonder what would happen if you took "the" out of line three as well.

Just some experimental thoughts. All in all, this is an awesome poem. Great work.

This is very good, i like your flow of thoughts and specially your imagery.
It's a bit hard to discover who are you describing here, that her.
Yep, i just discovered your "style" in your poems. You're very talented for someone of your age. I specially like your ending. Keep writing, i'll be reading more!
Thanks for sharing..Well done

Such vivid introspection - made wonderful with the idea of reflection. Another little piece of writing bliss from you, Lydia.

I can see her looking into the water, seeing a reflection of what she has become. You make a very good portrait of her.
