High Standards

High Standards

A Poem by Lydia

Repetitive wonders of ones whom you trust
Caught in a sandstorm, choking on the dust
Hard to comprehend they have their doubts, but you must
Hurry, please hurry! Make your decision before it rusts

You beg them to believe you but they won't budge
It seems to me that they might be holding a grudge
You have troubles in your past, but who are they to judge?
They won't help you out so you continue to trudge

Through freezing cold nights and scorching hot days
You hate your part time job but atleast it pays
You've tried to convince them in so many ways
But they slam the door and wish you away

Constantly asking what you've done wrong
To deserve this shunning, a hatred so strong
You want to be accepted, you want to belong
But they push you away like they have for so long

You're insecure now and you question all your actions
You can't live your life because of all the troubling distractions
Look what they've done to you, cut off all interaction

Don't worry about them, though, no one meets their satisfactions.

This isn't my best work for sure. I usually use bigger words, but I figured I might as well right an easier read I guess. Anyways, tell me what you think!

I love this. I almost feel like... idk, in a sense you could interpret the poem as being from a person to themselves, type thing. Like... it's their own expectations that they don't meet. Does that make sense? Then again, you could simply be talking about someone not meeting other people's standards. Been there, done that - got the t-shirt...
I like that this can be interpreted in different ways. That's what makes a poem special. That and a great poet; which you undoubtedly are. :)
Keep up the hard work.

Society sets very high standards for many people. A few times I've written something and gotten bad reviews on it, and it made me want to just stop writing. You captured these emotions efficiently. I can relate to this. Well done!

Wow!! Great writing! Nice flow and easily connectable and it lingers on after reading in the mind and is very thought provoking!

this is beautiful like rejection makes one a different person and rejections makes one lonely and we all dont want to live with solitude

This is a good read - it really gets your imagination. Kind of like myself: I set really high standards for myself, sometimes it seems impossible to achieve. I'm happy when I do, miserable when I don't. I can get pretty paranoid at times too :0 It's hard when the "they" in your poem is in matter of fact, yourself. I tend to ignore that side of me though :) Try not to be a perfectionist (though sometimes that's bad - it really brings the lazy side out of me) so good job! This is going in my library!!!
