Tunes to Our Lives

A Poem by Victoria Harlequin
"

Something I cooked up at 2:00 a.m. Yes, in the morning not afternoon! O_o So if it doesn't seem right, then I have a reason. This really has no 'specific' message behind it, just read.

Tunes to Our Lives

Welcome to the jungle, we got fun and games
The air is rushing at my face in full force
My feet are pounding at the ground as if I were a horse
I am going to win this, I am going to win this
Three, two, one! I’m across the finish line

Wherever you go, I’ll be with you
Whatever you want, I’ll give it to you
He knows this all too well, it’s true
But he doesn’t realize these feelings are new
Soon enough, I will be the flame in his heart

The children’s carousel; the chestnut trees; the wishin’ well
Love is a splendid thing and ages peacefully in time
After years with the same love, it seems to be a rhyme
Those who are young will have fun again and again
Ones who are old have less, but they remember then and when

My father was a gamblin’ man, down in New Orleans
A young man works every day away on the tracks
Never caring about all the things his life lacks
Sure, he grew up handling the house at age nine
But that only prepared him for life, it taught him to be a man

One minute I held the key, next the walls were closed on me
And I discovered that my castles stand upon pillars of salt & pillars of sand
Lines are traced across the page and words as well
Deep within my thoughts, I can hear the lively bell
It keeps me sane and pushes me further down the gold path

Music is in the worst and best of all of us
Even if it’s not the song you want it to be
When words don’t get the job done, music steps in
It is great because when it’s heard it doesn’t hurt

Songs included in this poem (in order):
Welcome To the Jungle – Guns N’ Roses
The Flame – Cheap Trick
I’ll Be Seeing You – Billie Holiday
House of the Rising Sun – Animals
Viva La Vida – Coldplay

I love how you took the verse of a song and made it your own! Well done!

Tired minds do find things, don't they? I think this was really fun and creative. I'm glad you put the names of the songs, becuase I recognized that last one and couldn't place it. I liked the cheap trick stanza the best, but they were all great. Nice job!

So I'm getting that you first put lyrics to different songs up and then elaborated on them. Very creative!

This is my absolute favorite line!
"Those who are young will have fun again and againOnes who are old have less, but they remember then and when"

I'm not sure whether Axl Rose has thoughts that I would recognize, but who among us has not sat at the dining room table, listening to the radio, and drifting into the alternate realities that Buddy Holly, Roberta Flack, Don McLean, George Harrison spin for us. This is a nice little tribute to the ability of others to move us from where we are to another place we'd possibly rather be. Thanks, Roni!

Really love this. Especially the line, "Music is in the worst and best of all of us". Absolutely true! That is what music is about. And, also, what makes it so universal. But then, again, I am biased due to my love of music. The ultimate form of communication!!!
