(The Parlour) Who am I?

(The Parlour) Who am I?

A Poem by John Holmes

There is a magic in the air
a storm in my heart
music in the walls
and life in your lungs
what are we sweet lovers
Emperors upon high
Wandering fools
or Azlan
to us?
How do we know
who we are
How do we stop this swirling storm in our hearts
how do we look in the mirror
and know who we are?
how do we know
what song we are singing
or to which tune
we are dancing ?
I blink.
I see the charioteer in your eyes,
An Empress in your quill
Emperor is felt in your handshake.
The fool is in your stride
I see storms
and life too
in your soul
I ask you who you're
and you say
this
or
that
but we are Angels
and we are Demons
for we are more than
personification
The fool is but a shard of you
the Empress too
they are but pieces of a human
soul
so when you wake
in the orange light of the dawn
or the silver light of the night
ask yourself
who am I today?
