The Flake

The Flake

A Poem by Craig Rozniecki

The Flake

So close,
So far away,
Ubiquitous,
Non-existent,

I feel your warmth when you’re near,
The times few and far between,
The laughs and smiles that we share,
Before you vanish from the scene,

I call to prompt conversation,
Never certain that you’ll answer,
Naively hopeful for a response,
Typically ending in disappointment,

Out of the blue you call,
To talk and catch up,
Feeling the same chemistry as before,
Feeling as though we never stopped,

The cycle starts again,
Temporarily removed from your life,
Communication ceases to be,
Until you decide otherwise,

Slowly falling from the sky,
Uncertain if you’ll freeze or melt,
Uncertain if the predictions were right,
Dependent on the changing temperature,

The precipitation finally ends,
The damage only temporary,
Before you’re plowed from my life,
Never wanting to see you again.

I'll be honest (like this is something new for me...), I'm not sure what to write here. It's not a singles ads, so even though I like long walks on the beach, I don't see much point in mentioning that.. more..
