The Storm

The Storm

A Poem by TheUnrulyWriter
"

Written in honor of a lost friend.

"

You were there, then you weren’t

Like the calm before the storm

Like that hand on my window

Called to me; whispered “go”

The trees were still, yet now they call

Screaming at me “don’t you fall”

But the wind is in a whirl

Prodding at my heart to twirl

There was silence, then a crash

Then I realized what I had

Like a slap in the face

Mother Nature told my place

Now the thunder damns my name

All those things I take; not gain

And the lightning peels her eyes

And sends to me a surprise

And I jump and I run

Because the present has begun

And I’m stuck here now forever

And I’ll miss you now forever

Now life will never be the same

I’ll never feel that lull again

For that gift she gave was fear

And a storm is always near

Great work, your use of imagery definitely elevated the poem

This seems to be a juxtaposed match between the death of a friend and an elemental fight against the elements, which for me is the emotions one experiences through the grief process. Very fine work.
