Until The Crows Come Flying Home

I silently watch as the seasons go by
Day after day,
Night after night.
Through violent winds,
Heavy rain and snow
I silently wait,
Until the crows come flying home.
For they are my only friends
In this plain empty field.
Nobody but them know
Of the pain that i feel.
For my own straw heart
Can only take so much,
Until it finally breaks
Just a scarecrow with a sown on face
As useless as dust
Until the day im replaced.
So again
I wait.
Through violent winds,
Heavy rain and snow
Until the crows
Finally...

Come flying home.

"As useless as dust
Until the day im replaced"

There is truth and hurt in these two lines. It is worded with such feelings and perspective that no one will know it originated for a contest. It is always a good read from you, dear. I love reading your works. :)

Beautiful poem, yeah.. day by day.. the time`s kept walking away of each and everyone. And I love how beautifully you define the moments of nature using great words. I enjoyed reading your words! Nice imagery!

There has always been something spooky about scarecrows to me. Maybe it's from watching horror or something? I wrote one myself about them (No longer posted) and it did okay. I had a nice picture with it that had a darkened sky with lightning in the background. You did this well and captured the feeling of what it would be like to only have crows as friends. The line "nobody but them know" bothers me for some reason. And don't forget I'm as a contraction of I am.

Good poem

thankyou :)
Enjoyed this piece - i liked the narrative thread throughout the poem, and the comparison of the self to a scarecrow - the mortality and fragility of a "straw heart" - a beautiful way to put it. Well done!
