Ever Known

If you've ever known one love your entire life

How do you move on

All she has ever been is his wife

And now he is gone

She is heart broken

And there is nothing anyone can say or do

She holds on to a single picture as a token

Never leaves it for even a second or two

She never wants to leave the house

She feels him with her there

She's scared if she leaves she really will lose her spouse

So she would never dare

She's a prisoner to her first and only love

She doesn't know how to go on with out him

So she speaks to him up above

Hoping he'll hear her and come back on a whim

No when can console her

Since they can not tell her what she wants to hear

She only wants to know things will go back to the way they were  

And since they can't it always ends with a single tear

What a lovely poem.. Full of love, longing and heartbreak. One can never tell what will happen when we are forced to live without our love. This is very well written, and the lines flow very smoothly. Nice poem!!

Beautiful poem, and if I had to guess (always risky, I know) I'd guess you are writing about your grandmother, after your grandfather died. When I volunteered as a hospital chaplain, I remember seeing an elderly lady visiting her husband in critical care; it was very clear he was living his last few days. Your poem here captured some of my thoughts and feelings as I struggled to find words to say to her, some way to give comfort. There isn't comfort for this, though, like your poem says, it always ends with a tear. Thanks for sharing this.
