Another Year

Another Year

A Poem by Theresa
"

Another poem about my grandfather as the holidays near the hole in my heart only seems to grow.

"

Another year has come and gone

The pain of losing you has not

Our hearts are still broken

Our life still feels incomplete

Your presence is still assumed

As your memory carries on

Thanksgiving will be as always

A time to reflect on our memories

Just now the memories are mainly of you

I will listen closely to all that everyone has to say

Only wishing I could have heard them from your point of view

Wishing that we could have had more time

Even for just a day or two

When a story is complete

We will all laugh together

Then a moment of silence

A moment that is never planned

It's as if we all take a second to reflect

Some will look down at their drinks

Others will look up with a smile

As we think of your smiling face

Then as if it never happened

Another tale will ensue

Since another year has come and gone

And the pain of losing you has not

We will take refuge in our memories

And hope that you are close

Any person who had a loss in their family would relate to this piece, the sadness that comes, the memories that people will remain talking about, the gap that's left empty on the dinner table. wonderful write, I really liked it, it had this easy but sad tone, making it likable without being too complicated.
Good Job!

Well said, well written. Been skipping around, reading various poems, or at least starting, and this one held my attention to the end. it was down to earth, written for a reader and not just the subjective thoughts of the writer. Didn’t notice the comment about your grandfather until after. While reading it, I got the impression you were talking about a brother, which for me, caries more weight. Just a thought here, but since this poem is so approachable and universal, consider not mentioning your grandfather. In other words, give the poem to the reader without any qualifications so that the reader can apply the poem to whoever they want—if that make sense. Anyway, nice job. Enjoyed it.

I remember when I lost my grandfather, I still think of him many years later and probably always will. You've written this well and I'm sure he'll be watching over all of your family. Good sentiments.

Touching, I love it...Emotional with a glint of hope, however small.
