Book Of Songs

Book Of Songs

A Poem by Deron Alexis

Book of Songs

We wrote a heart

With ink and time

It started to beat,

Love gave life.

We saw the earth

And you became my world

How we relished the sunrise

And walked through rain

Put roses in a book we made

Pressed between every leaf and page.

Alas all things are bound to end

You said to make this night ascend

To write a song like none before

And show you I was thinking of love

But at this cross roads

We part our ways

Carry our love all your days

Take this rose

And the book of songs we made

Flip through the pages

And inhale the rose wind of long ago

When the wind sang along

And placed cherry blossoms in your hair

And stilled all our fear.

And when you reach the last page

You’ll see my heart

the one you helped to make

splattered on the paper

surrendered to you

In this anguish

promise one thing

when stars fall and skies are burning

whenever  we’re apart

no matter how long

guard my dear heart

and our book of songs.

This is really gorgeous Deron, has a melody all it's own on the page. Love the idea of a book of songs representing a love shared....

'splattered on the paper, surrendered to you'

Just what it feels like, nice one!
