SOMETHING LEFT

SOMETHING LEFT

A Poem by DIVYA
"

To my love...

"

SOMETHING LEFT

Something of mine

I need you to return

That wet, rainy night

Awash with passion

That night is still smoldering

Please quench that night

Snuff it for me

The rustle of the leaf bed

On which we lay last fall

You know, the bough above

Still quivers at the way

We made love

Please crack the bough

Burn it for me

That umbrella too

Under which we drenched

Our kisses half dry, half wet

I took the dry with me

The moist, sweet ones

Are still lying on your bed

Please gather them all

Return them to me

Something of mine

I need you to return

DIVYA
This poem is based on an extremely popular Hindi movie song Mera Kuch Samaan (Hindi: मेरा कुछ सामान, literally: Some of my things) directed by the master lyricist Gulzar, who also wrote the song. The song was composed by R D Burman and sung by the legendary singer Asha Bhosle. In the film, the song takes cue from the poem, Maya (Anuradha Patel) leaves behind in letter, for her former lover Mahinder (Naseeruddin Shah), asking him to return her things. As he read on, he finds they are not physical things she wants back, but memories of times spent together. The song remains one of singer Asha Bhosle's most popular, and her personal favourite, as in a 2005 interview to the The Fader magazine, calling it autobiographical, she said, "Mera Kuch Samaan..This song is my life." Beautiful song and beautifully expressed words...

That umbrella too
Under which we drenched
Our kisses half dry, half wet
I took the dry with me
The moist, sweet ones
Are still lying on your bed
Please gather them all
Return them to me..

This stanza tells the whole story....

Keep the good work Divya
