Hands In The Air

Hands In The Air

A Poem by Beatrice Mars

I'm dancing around,
Like a gangster girl
With my hands in the air,
Imagining I'm on a stage in front
Of thousands of people,
Then I notice
The window is open
And people could be
Watching.

I dance over there
(It's raining outside)
And close the
Curtains on the street.

I sing along to my
Favourite song
With my hands in the air.

But then I knock
The lampshade
And the light goes off,
And an advert comes on the radio.

I'm brought back to earth
With an electric shock.

The light flickers,
For a moment I'm sure it'll
Blow.
But then the light is back,
And so's the
Music.
(Only this time I wish I could play guitar.)

I dance around
(With my hands in the air)
Until I'm breaking out in a
Sweat.

I sit down and
Just sing instead.

And I'm singing to my
Favourite songs,
With my hands in the air,
When my mum comes in
And gives me an odd look.
I try to wave and say
Hello,
But I've lost my voice
And my arms have gone
Dead.

I liked it. I think it reminds me of myself everyday and of every other human being on the plant. Good job :)
