We Let Burn

We Let Burn

A Poem by C Peril

It's the fire we let
burn; we let it feed on
our holy scriptures, our guiding
words   It's the devil's tongue,
red and wretched, that sings
to our inner desperation
and knows our anguish
Quite acquainted
Fire, burning

It's the darkness
we don't dispel, that
consumes our path, to peace
to prosperity... paradise
It's the torch we won't light
and it's the match
we won't strike
A pale promise
Time, ruin

It's the sand dunes we roam,
the desolate desert, of the
minds, of the men which we are
And we wait on salvation
which is why it doesn't come
The rain belongs to those
who dance, the mountains
to those that climb
Strive and succeed

And we cherish the cloak
called pity,
we sleep in caves of pain
