YOU'RE ONLY FOOD

Vampire.

Silky curtains billowing outward. A warm perfumed breeze wafting into my room along with early morning bird song. I roll over and open my eyes. I stare in confusion for several seconds, not recognizing anything. No, I'm not in my bedroom nor am I in my own bed. Fear stabs deep, shattering the relaxed and peaceful feeling I had woken with. My heart pounds painfully. I sit up and look wildly about. A beautiful bedroom for sure but it's not mine.

“Hello love.” a deep masculine voice greets me.

Crying out at the stranger's voice my head whips around to where the voice came from. A man is sitting in a white comfy chair. He looks like he could be tall and is obviously very thin, an unattractive thinness. His hair is shoulder length, messy looking and black. His face is gaunt and sickly pale. His eyes are two burning black lights.

“Where am I?” I ask with a voice cold with my fear. That seems to be the first question everyone asks upon finding themselves waking in an unknown place.

     The man smiles, “My home.”

I swing my legs over the side of the bed. “What am I doing here?” The most popular second question asked when one finds themselves waking in a strange place.

The man laughs, a frosty empty sound. “I want you here.”

    “Why?”

The man unfolds himself from the chair and comes and stands in front of me. “Stop asking such stupid questions. I will not answer any more.”

I stare up at him watching as his smile grows wider and he parts his lips. What I see brings a scream up my throat but it never makes it out of my mouth. He has fangs, two upper ones and two lower ones. I notice as he reaches out for me that his fingers end in long, greyish curved talons. A monster! A monster from the deepest darkest places. I suddenly can't breathe and my scream dies from lack of oxygen.

He grips me by my upper arms and lifts me up. “I am very hungry. So very very hungry.” His voice is a very threatening growl.

Vampire! He's a vampire. I'm in shock. All the movies and books I've ever read about vampires flashes through my mind. One after the other. All the different vampires staring in these novels go marching by, one by one by one. I'm horrified. I'm excited. Then I'm terrified. What sort of vampire is this one? A friendly one who cares for his human victims or a cold, uncaring or truly dead one that feeds and leaves his victims dead.

Which one? Which one is this vampire.

“Are you going to kill me?” My voice is high and squeaky in my fear.

“Does your food every survive after you're done eating it? Plants? Animals?” the vampire asks.

I start sobbing. I wasn't going to survive this. I was just food to this monster. A meal to end his hunger.

“I see you have your answer.”

He yanks me to his body and lifts me up just enough so he has my throat in position. He opens his mouth, his four fangs flashing wetly before my vision for just a moment then he strikes, serpent like, and sinks his fangs deep into my throat. I scream with pain and I feel my hot blood leaving my body and going into the vampire's body. I hear him slurping, sucking and lapping. I feel my life ebbing away. I feel myself grow cold. I feel numb. All sensation is rapidly leaving my body. I whimper pitifully. My heart is beating frantically. I feel light headed and dizzy. I am weak. I am slipping into darkness....a warm comforting darkness....

Wow, exceptional vampire story. Why should be expect vampires to have compassion for their food animals anymore than we humans have compassion for our food animals. We all need to eat, right? Yes, the answer is. No one wants to starve and that includes vampires.

Very imaginative and riveting story. This is a vampire behaving the way one would think a vampire should behave. Not a boring section in this story.

Well done! A very creepy vampire poem. Not all vampires are caring and compassionate toward humankind. Humans are food for vampires, after all. I like this horror write!
