Believe

Believe

A Poem by Tony Jordan
"

based on a real event

"
Something
on the drive up
told me that
little Michael
had stopped
believing...

*

As we got back
in the car
- he gasped
"Uncle Tony...
can we go back
to see Santa
again
~ next year?"

*

And in my heart -

sleigh-bells

Lol, why would anyone stop believing? Santa is (or at least was) real. He is the spirit of saint Nicholas endlessly reimagined. We stopped believing in Santa because our imaginations shrank as we grew bigger; when they actually should have grown with us to comprehend an expanded conceptual meaning. I guess some people stop believing in the "concepts" of love and faith in the same way.

Open your eyes and look around. Its Christmas. Santa is everywhere =)

I Believe!

Certain sweet illusions can act as protective umbrellas to youthful innocence.
Lord knows modern society's endless moral corruptions arrive soon enough.
Heart-warmer, Tony!

Excellent so simple but says so much - my sister cruelly told me Santa wasn't real and I argued all day that he was and cried :(

Little Michael no longer believes.
What I like about this poem is, I can easily understand it yet in all its simplicity, it is a heartbreaking, sentimental poem, good job!

Absolutely lovely. My Charlie is ten now and I think he's a little unsure about Santa now; but I'm fairly sure he's ready to believe, provided he get's the present he's been 'casually' mentioning for ages. :))

A lovely, truly tender poem.

Beccy.
