Still There

Still There

A Poem by Treva C Tindol

 Still There

She is still there…somewhere within.

She lives hidden beneath my skin.

She is as she was, so young and so fair.

I know she exists.  I know she’s there.

Years have passed and flown away.

Hair that was dark has turned to gray,

But the bright-eyed girl can still be seen,

In eyes that twinkle, with youthful sheen.

I have grown old, but she is still there.

We still enjoy the wind in our hair.

We love to dance to a rhythmic beat,

And feel the sand beneath our feet.

We lie in the grass in the warmth of the sun,

And unite with sky and earth to be one.

We thrill to music of an old favorite song,

And the past comes alive, as we sing along.

The girl I once was only a memory may be,

But still, she survives deep within me.

No, I’m not so old that she’ll fade away,

For she is my youth, and with me she’ll stay.
