I Promise

I Promise

A Poem by lauren emily
"

We all make promises

"

I promise to follow your every move,

I promise to follow your awkward groove.

I promise not to leave you in your time

of need,

I promise to at least look at some of the

books you're dying for me to read.

I promise to not give you all the blame,

I promise to run wild with you

when you're not tame.

I promise to try to see things your way,

I promise to give you the time of day.

I promise to be your very best friend,

I promise to be there with you, fighting,

till the very end.

It is funny, how many of us have made those vows or will make those vows. We say them with all the meaning in the world, we say them with all the love of our hearts, and we say them with all the being of our soul. Then, inevitably, one will realize that they had the best intentions when they made them...but...

Nobody could read this work without some tugging of the heartstrings.

It reminds me of both newlyweds and old married couples...not really sure how to explain that. You make all those promises when you're in love and its new, and as you grow old together you continue to make promises and keep them.

I especially love this part...

You have a great poem here. It is one of the works that will hold significantly different meaning for people as they travel life's path. I childhood - hope, teens - compliance, adults - resigned hope. Of course, others may see that differently too, that is what makes it a wonderful poem.

Great job!
