I Heart White Earth

I Heart White Earth

A Poem by UC Poika
"

Another true adventure but this time on the White Earth Reservation on the way to the casino there.

"

In White Earth Reservation there is a place
Where a lake comes right up to the highway
But I remember most the curves and look on your face
As we went through the town with name I could not say
Not because Ojibwe is hard to pronounce for it ain't
But because my tongue turned against me I think
And we laughed until I thought I might just faint
As we followed Mahnomen River to town for a drink
Mahnomen means wild rice you may know,
But along the way we saw an eagle's nest
That had two eaglets chowing down on small game
And arrived at the casino for a fry bread fest;
These natural places with many nice faces
Lay to rest any animosity between races!
