New Old Friends

New Old Friends

A Poem by UC Poika
"

An acrostic sonnet I wrote for my friend and SCRABBLE partner Julie whose name is included in the opening letter acrostic. We've been friends for years but now have struck up a board game partnership

"

To me there is no doubt we have been good friends
Overtly maybe but friends all of this time
Just dreamers believing friendships have no ends
Unless we shed them ourselves for real or in mime
Like they truly were if we could actually do that
In reality making it a deliberate choice
Especially when we knew that it's where it's at
That certain something that lives in their voice
Inviting us to hang around them too
Selflessly saying to our souls they have a need
Letting us meet what we need before they’re through
A person we enjoy like a flower not a weed
Never pushing themselves on us; content,
Devoid of malice and always looking for our ascent.
