Homebound

Homebound

A Poem by Uday Kanungo
"

A journey that takes me back to my home, and the excitement that follows alongside. Its all about that.

"
The exhilaration  grew day by day
Till I reached the vessel that was destined
To end my pain and take me home
So much so that I never looked behind.

The sky grew dark when I went aboard
So pale was the sun that I could see
The vessel moved as the engine roared
        And such started my Odyssey

The night passed and the sun appeared
I  could see trees and pastures green
Sweet feelings of my return I reared
lest old memories would lose their sheen

But then in weather came such a change
The sunlight was nowhere to be found
The rain splashed with a speed so strange
The thunder created the only sound

Still then I hoped; against hope although
That I could finally find some cheer
I did everything to avoid gruesome sorrow
And wiped my mind completely of fear.

At last I saw temples, and buildings tall
And knew I was close to familiar ground
I leapt with joy and made a hearty call
For I realised I was no more homebound.

I loved the detail you put into this, especially considering it's based on personal experience. Although the 4th stanza was confuzzling, it felt like it didn't really have a place in this poem. Otherwise an entertaining poem!

You write with an amazing depth of feeling. Although my home is not so far away, I do love going back there. You wonderfully expressed your pain in being away from home and your joy in returning. Nicely done!
