Sometimes I wonder,
If our lives were monochromatic.
In varying tones of black and white.
Everything around,
Either covered in bright light,
Or in impenetrable dark.
Contrasting with our lives,
Our bright outer selves,
Our dark, hollow hearts.
Sometimes I wonder.
What it would be like,
To live devoid of any colours.
Would it be the same,
To look at the rainbow,
That was now filled with
Shades of grey?
As I lay here wondering,
I silently wish
That it becomes true.
I silently wish,
People finally get to see,
What it is like,
To see the self,
Slowly disintegrate.
Perhaps irrespective of colour perceptions, if everything was monochromatic, that too would take on meaning - such seems the need of human consciousness at an everyday level, to confer meaning - a survival mechanism? There is still a sort of 'self' centredness, even in the nihilism, the 'outsider'?

Your poem has given much food for thought - thanks.

The whole world is narcissistic regarding the ever colourful surroundings all about. In my opinion, venturing towards something darker, and embracing it isn't narcissistic of any sort. It's a step to opt out. To leave the herd. Being devoid of colors can bring compassion. Point of view will change. But the things will stay the same. The world will be same. Just a bit different to look. Portraying a different message perhaps.
And glad you got something to think about :)
I love your use of artistic vocabulary. Very unique idea. The concept of not being aware of all the beauty we are surrounded by is captivating. Good job, you made me think about that.

Trying to understand the meaning of life and everything around by using words and creating something unique out of them. A heavy metal fan. Quite weird. Ambivert.
