La Tierra Buena

My cousins walked down the invisible road of opportunity through the desert. They risked their lives crossing the orange Sonora mountains. They described to me the hot air that that felt like the sun was scorching their brown skin, for they had to hide from the bird that would stop them from attaining their freedom. They had heard the stories from their abuelos saying if they were to cross the bricks of oppression you’ll have a whole new futuro, for the riches that await you. The Estados Unidos. La tierra buena. A symbol of hope, a symbol for change, a symbol of opportunity, the land of opportunity! a second chance at life. Now I’m here a child of a Mexicano who wanted a better life. He did the impossible. He gave me that chance. He has given me that opportunity because of what he did. He has now told me Agárralo y lo puedes a ganar todo.
