Wild Cats At Sunrise

this morning
the hair on
trees stood
up

i saw a fat
orange
cat

wild
wringing

in
the
leaves

birds /
lots of them

different
species

flapping
frolicking
between

the palms
shaking
shattering

babies
emotional
bodies

like a checkmate,
the cat
confused

pounces
to the edge
of the

leaf



and

falls.

almost like a dark cartoon...pounces and there is nothing under that leaf...
life can confuse us....we need to back away and ponder awhile...
then we might not fall away so easily.

there are many temptations in life...like different birds to a cat...and we frolic right into them...
more in youth, now we are wiser with our nine lives...we learn. hopefully.

I am generally distrustful of anything that smacks of concrete poetry, but it can be done right, or at least you can (if you have the writing chops) incorporate some of the concepts into your work effectively. This is a pretty damn fair Exhibit A here. The short lines combined with the sibilance/consonace gives a certain frenetic feel to the lines, and the final five stanzas are clever and then some. This piece is playing with form done right.
