"Painting Word Pictures"

"Painting Word Pictures"

A Poem by Valentine

            "Painting Word Pictures"

With words, I paint pictures in my mind;
Of far away places and long ago times.
Sometimes the pictures are so easy to find,
But often I am stopped, by words that won't rhyme.

I think of the stories, I am trying to tell;
They are locked in my mind and continually dwell.
If I had a paint brush...could I paint you one time,
Or are you locked in a yesterday that is no longer mine.

I often search for the correct words to say;
Always hoping the rhymes will come...and stay.
For years I did paint, with spectacular hues;
I wish I had painted...a word picture of you.

I have always loved words and pastel colors that shine;
Ways to express all that I feel in my mind.
It seems that what ever medium I may choose;
What I am trying to express is... a clear view of you.

Just to express...for you...all that I feel...
In words or in colors--for me is so real.
I guess that what...I am trying to say;
By a pen, pencil or paint brush, I love you today.

So if you see a painting, or of words that are in rhyme;
I hope you will remember...I really loved you one time.

I loved this one!
The flow is so smooth and the lines read very well.As writers, I think, many of us can relate to that feeling when you have an idea but the feeling passes when you sit down to write.
The other eternal conflict is between writing the words you want and the meter, rhythm.
Until recently, I didn't even take meter into consideration but I'm starting to realize what I've been missing out on. A part of me goes, "You need to correct the rhythm" but another goes, " But that word NEEDS to stay! ".
I hope that made sense!

Yes it does. I just write I never studied poetry writing. Kathie
You certainly don't show a struggle in this, or any other of your writes for that matter. This comes off as a very clear and fluid thought, capturing the essence of what we all would like to achieve, that memory perfected on a page. Another spooky coincidence that you mention pastel hues, the piece I am trying to write just now is I think, the only thing I have felt the urge to change the colour of the writing to a pastel colour, and now that I have done that, I can't change it back without it looking weird to me. So yes, I get how certain hues can be given to our thoughts at times.
Again, this is so fluid that I'm surprised it has stayed in place on my screen. Beautifully captured Kathie.

Oh my goodness what a beautiful poem! I am also stopped by words that won't rhyme. "Are you locked in a yesterday that is no longer mine" is a great line. This whole poem is beautiful, it actually made tears come to my eyes

Thank you Stanley. Kathie
oh my ...so sad yet so musical ... you describe the birthplace of artistry ...sometimes one can be almost desperate to find a way to express deep passions, desires, needs ... for one such as you, its not just the rhyming, but rhythm, iambs and syntax .. i have a lot of admiration for anyone who seems to belt these out with such ease ..the few i have attempted take weeks and lots of advice from others .. but are well worth the effort ..the humor of your 1V4L belies the romance and wistful memory of the lost loved one :(( enjoyed reading

I wish I could paint and you are welcome dear Kathie.
If the picture on the wall is looking divine.
Then it stands to reason.
It's bound to rhyme.
