Poetry Makes Me Cringe

Poetry Makes Me Cringe

A Poem by VelvetPotato
"

Criticisms of poetry

"
He said, "Poetry makes me cringe,
Paint a picture or draw instead."
I said, "It keeps me off the fringe,
with a level, steady head."

He said, "Poetry is Emo,
And takes itself too seriously."
I said, "If it is honest, what do you know?
And whimsical, contrarily!"

He said, "Poetry is random,
and certainly pretentious."
I said, "The willow sways like a church choir,
But molecular combustion would end it!"

oh my, this is so creative...sardonically funny
and i love the Robert Creeley (one of my favorite Beats) type of delivery with the conversation...
some poets and poetry do take themselves too seriously...that is true...the uppity magazines run by uppity editors who couldn't write three words that would touch a soul.
but that combustion that is there when we write...as poets we are imploding and exploding all at once.
great stuff here.
