Easy, Like a lie

Sometimes the truth seems hard or impossible to tell

It’s true what they say

“It’s easier to lie”

I know the answer that I gave

It was the one you wanted

And a smile spread across your face

But the truth never reached your ears

 

I sought to deceive your mind

Because the pain could be evaded

The words I said, well,

They kept your heart from breaking then

But not mine

 

Knowing what I said was false

Makes it hurt to smile

Each one adds to the lie

 

Now the pain runs deep

And I’m not sure what to do

I knew what you wanted to hear

But never how to speak the truth

The lie was better to say

 

So I doubt you’ll believe me when I tell you

I’m sorry it’s this way

I know what I am to you

But it’s not what you think

Cause it’s easier to lie
