One Of Those Guys

Another very recent poem about the same ex-boyfriend. Lots of mixed feelings going on for both of us but he still remains one of my best friends no matter what.

One Of Those Guys

 

You’re one of those guys,

Who always wants to know what’s wrong.

You want to be there and comfort me.

You want me to know that you care

And make sure that everything is fine.

 

But when something is bugging you,

You close your heart

And want to forget it.

You keep me at distance

And won’t let me be there for you

Like you are for me.

 

 

You’re one of those guys,

Who wants to know everything.

You ask tons of questions

And expect to get all of the answers.

You don’t like when I keep secrets

Or don’t know what I’m thinking.

 

But when questions are being shot at you,

You leave them unanswered.

You’d rather keep your thoughts to yourself

And won’t share anything with me.

You turn my questions around so they remain unanswered.

 

 

You’re one of those guys,

Who will stand next to me through thick and thin.

You tell me to trust you and open up.

You’ll stay up way into the night

Just to tell me that things will be okay.

 

But when I try to be there for you,

You just push me away.

You become distant and quiet.

Conversations are short

And you tell me not to worry.

 

 

You’re one of those guys,

Who always knows what to say.

When tears are threatening to escape

You say something to make me laugh.

You know when to say that things will be okay

And always have a word of assurance.

 

But when I try to say something comforting,

You cut me off.

You say you have things under control

Even though I can see the truth.

You make up an excuse to leave,

Before I can say anything to make things okay.

 

 

You’re one of those guys,

Who’s always there for me.

Every second.  Every day.  Every night.

You always care

And help me figure out my feelings.

You always know exactly what I need.

 

But when I try to do the same for you,

Everything changes.

I never get to show you

What it’s like to have someone care.

Your heart stays closed off and

I never get to be there for you

Like you are for me.

Author's Note

So, I know this poem is kinda long and I really have no idea what to think of it. I wrote it very quickly when the idea just came to me. It's seems like I could change something in it and improve it but I'm lost as what to do.

I really like this poem, it's repetition of "you're one of those guys" and it's poetic informality really add to the emotion of the poem. It really reminded me of someone who closed their heart off to me, and that theme is very poignant throughout. No suggestions at all really, it is very well-written, keep on writing in this style, it really works for you
