7 miles East

7 miles East

A Poem by Danielle Asher

Part I

Voices muffled by gunshots

Opinions gone unheard by louder more prominent men in suits laughing at those without a position behind the table

CRASH

she goes to metal- to dust

Another light out

Another fighter down

Who wins this fight?

Part II

Privilege

Surrounded by sirens and badges

7 miles East

A fight over turf

Who will sell

Which corner belongs

To red

            To blue

BANG

Another life in question

Make good Choices

Skin tells a story
Or do we judge

Assume

Mark for death?

The Law

Helps

Hurts

Kills

Protects

Who?

DUST

Separated

Part III

The Privileged are hanging out white washed by

The color of the ambulance, their protectors, and their skin

7 miles East

Another girl gets raped

For friend’s acceptance into his family

Wanting to belong

Another boy looks in the mirror

Very stream of consciousness feel, I love it. You have a very unique style here. It's choppy but in a good way, I wouldn't change a thing. Interesting ideas. I feel like I should read it over a few more times to get the full meaning. Great write, good luck in the contest you've entered. :)

Wow. A battle of the demons. Deeply moving, poignantly so.
