Valentines Day

Valentines Day

A Poem by Samantha ~virginpoet

Valentines Day
your my favorite holiday

I don't know why
What have you ever done for me
You've never given me a valentine
You've never given me a kiss
to make me see stars
nor hand to hold
nor arms to get lost in.

You have given me tears every year

You've made me feel
more alone than on any other day
made me scream
made me watch
while love
dingle dangles
itself
right in front of me
Taunting me
Mocking me
Stalking me
Giving itself to everyone around me
Teasing my heart
my soul my body
with whispers of sweet nothings
sounds of loves intentions
spoken unspeakably.

All the while
love eludes me

Not an hour
Not a day
nor dreaming night
passes me swiftly
or leaves me completely
Love flew away
like a rare and beautiful bird
it slowly floated away
like a sad song through space.

Valentines Day
love seems to have
a mind of its own

a separate being
that leads you to believe

its within reaching distance
like the sky to the ground
love tricks you into believing
that you above all others
can reach and pluck the stars
from the mysterious
velvety night sky

and hold onto them
love and be loved by them.

Valentines Day
Is my name writ on cupids arrow
or am I left holding the bag?

Time s l o w s down

my heart stops
W A I T
I see my name
Samantha
Uh what
I didn't hear you

Cupids laughing... No silly

that's not your name
please don't drop the bag honey
I need your help
I'm sure your names in there somewhere

Valentines Day I think I hate you
.

That was a great poem, summed up exactly my feelings on Valentines day, you can really sense the sadness of having to watch the holiday from afar all the while wishing you were involved

Nice work stood up for us, who aren't fans of this holiday and loved how its expressed that we are standing on the side line holding the bags full of others name that get that one while we get none. Well- done to the anti-V's

I think a lot of people can relate to this poem. I know so many people who feel like this on Valentine's Day. They feel even more alone and they are left wanting by all the love in the air. I think you captured this feeling well. Great job.

The last sentence of the second stanza would be strengthened if the "as if..." were taken out, so it was only "spoken unspeakably."
Valentine's Day is not my favorite, even though I'm in a long term relationship. I think it's the commercialism that puts me off.
I like this poem though, it is darkly humorous and sad at the same time. I'm not sure the words in all caps do anything for the poem, though, but format is your own decision.
And cupid's an a*s.
Great Job!
