Father

Father

A Poem by Sage
"

Fathers are the least appreciated people in a family. I've written this for my father and this is long overdue.

"
Father

It must have been about 6 minutes
Since I was out of my primary home
The nurse called you in, and you rushed
Funny, how big I was since I started as a genome

You held me, eyes brimming with tears
Not tears of  the bad sort,  just full of joy
Held me high up, proud of me already
You must have felt 'Look at him! This is my boy!'

I started growing up, with love from you and mum
Life was fair to us, we were happy
You used to be back home soon, to spend time with us
Never once were we unhappy

Then came my school, your work started getting heavy
You would spend less time than before, but I did not know why
We got used to this, and then the next best thing we knew happened
After a long time, I heard my little sister's first cry!

You took time again, to nurture this little princess
All four of us were together again for a long time
The little one started growing at an amazing pace
The only way to describe this wonderful feeling was sublime

We both grew up, both in age and wisdom
Thanks to your guidance and affection
You did not show out much, I still do not know
How much burden and pain do you carry with perfection

You are not my superhero
You are my hero, that no superhero can be
With all your strength, wisdom, love for us always
Now that I've grown up, I won't let you down just you see

  Dear father, thanks in earnest
You've taught us things no one else could
Maybe one day in the future, I'll understand
The love, wisdom and joy of fatherhood

A wonderfully written tribute to your father, and fatherhood in general. One always hears many stories of bad parents, it's so refreshing to read a vivid description of a loving dad and mom. I am gladly accepting your friend request, but I ask that you send me read requests for the writes you'd like me to review; I have a hard time otherwise trying to keep up with all of my friends' writing. Nice to "meet you." take care...dan

Thank you. :)
This is lovely, fathers really do not get all the credit they deserve! I completely agree, they have half of the parenting load and work hard for their family. A great tribute to your father, and a great poem :)

PS: I think that in the forth stanza, in lines 4 & 7, you have missed a word.

You are welcome.
This was a wonderful read. An autobiography, a dedication, and above all, a gentle poetic appreciation of paternal care and affection .

There's this one Polish poet, quite popular recently, who wrote an epistle for his deceased grandfather. This kind of reminds me of that, very well done. Similar topics, differently written.
Particularly like the second to last stanza; the clear definement there stands out. Good job on this, hope you keep writing!
