The Chase

The Chase

A Poem by ac4st3r

I am hiding out of sight

Ready for my impending flight

They all stand and scan the sky

That’s dark until the time I fly

I’m ready, I’m going, this is my time

They’re so excited to see me climb

Higher, faster, I love this

I’m the light in a deep abyss

They’re all pleased, clapping and cheering

They don’t know how much I’m fearing

Much too high, too fast, too soon

Tonight, I’m brighter than their moon

And as I start to lose control

I see the sky so black as coal

They’re so excited " anticipation

For a sign a bit like liberation

Something snaps, and I am blazing

Oh, they say, it’s so amazing

After a bit of conflagration

That was so short in duration

I’m still somewhere high but quickly falling

Fading, drifting, dropping, stalling...

They looked away without a sound

No one saw me reach the ground
