From The Ashes

From The Ashes

A Poem by Ian Faraway

Cold raindrops fell from the heavens
As I rose from the ashes
Of my own destruction
Why did I live while others have died?
How did I find the will rise from the grave?
I caused my own demise
I set everything I once knew on fire
And watched as my foundations fell
A black fog blocked out the sun
And ash slowly fell to the ground around me
With my strength gone, I laid on the asphalt
And closed my eyes, hoping to die with the chaos
That was when I felt the first raindrop
The tiny prick hitting my forehead, causing goosebumps
I sat up and the ash that covered me fell
Now dirty and tired, I rose to my feet
From the ashes that was to be my grave
Rain poured through the blackened fog
And cleared the air around me
I climbed the tallest rubble I could find
And saw nothing but destroyed landscape everywhere
I looked up and saw a crimson sun break through the mist
From the standing foundations to ash
From the ashes start anew

"Cold raindrops fell from the heavens

This is a very good poem. The above question is asked often by Soldiers and people who survived dangerous places and situations. I believe some people must taste death to appreciate life. No weakness in the poem. Type of poem to have a deep conversation about. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry.

Amazing.
And I understand completely the feeling of rising above all the things that brought you so low, so deep into the grave of despondence.
Thank you for sharing.
